My Story: How I Stopped Just Existing and Started Actually Living
Chances are, if you’ve stumbled across this site, it’s because you’ve been searching for the same thing I spent years chasing:
A little more peace.
A whole lot less busyness.
Hands in the dirt.
Feet in the grass.
And the sun on your face instead of cold air-conditioning blasting in yet another overworked, overbooked day.
I get it.
I live on a busy little island in Florida where red lights are more like suggestions and life feels like a constant hustle. I loved freelancing - I still do - but for years, my soul was screaming, “This can’t be it. There has to be more.”
And then life shifted. Post-pandemic reflections, our youngest graduated high school, and suddenly all my kids were out living their best young-adult lives. Which was the goal, right? I raised them to be strong, independent humans who didn’t need me every second.
But when that moment actually came, I realized how much of myself I’d poured into being mom, freelancer, housekeeper, chef, animal momma, everything-to-everyone. And when I finally had the time to be whoever I wanted?
I had no freaking clue who that even was anymore.
Or… maybe I did.
Because in the quiet nights when I finally stopped talking and started listening, my soul whispered the same thing over and over:
Simple. Happy. Peace. Slow your roll.
The List That Changed Everything
One night I sat down with a notebook and wrote the life I wanted - no “shoulds,” no “someday,” just the honest, soul-deep stuff:
-
Grow herbs (lots more of them).
-
Grow flowers - enough to fill my house with fresh-picked vases every week.
-
Grow vegetables. Maybe even fruit trees.
-
Lay by the pool with a really good book - without guilt.
-
Bake nostalgic family recipes that take people straight back to their grandmother’s kitchen.
-
Live off the land, even if my “land” was just a small backyard on a busy island.
-
Choose joy over resentment. Peace over a spotless house.
I didn’t want to just exist anymore. I wanted to live.
From List to Life
That piece of paper sat for a while. Honestly, so did my doubt. But when 2025 hit, I drew a line in the sand.
No more “someday.” No more waiting.
I started planting. I started baking. I started saying no to things that drained me and yes to the things that lit me up. My husband built me two pergolas (and now jokes I’m “addicted to dirt and seeds”). We added solar, flower boxes, hydroponics, and I’m currently eyeing fruit trees. He heads for the tool aisle; I disappear into the garden center - it’s our thing now.
I also pulled out every family recipe card I had and turned the hot stove I used to resent into a space of joy again. Because some of my happiest memories live in a warm kitchen like the time little-me melted crayons on my grandma’s stove and proudly called it “a rainbow.”
Now, I get to recreate that nostalgia for other people through my rituals, baked goods and handmade goods.
This Isn't Just About Me
The older I get, the more I realize that many of us are searching for the same thing. Not necessarily a bigger house, a better job, or another item on a to-do list.
We're searching for peace.
We're searching for purpose.
We're searching for a way to feel more connected to our homes, our families, our faith, and ourselves.
Maybe you've felt it too.
The longing for slower mornings.
The desire to spend less time rushing and more time living.
The feeling that somewhere along the way, life became louder than you ever intended.
I understand that feeling because I've lived it.
That's why I share the things I do here. The stories, recipes, traditions, reflections, photographs, and handmade creations that bring meaning to my own life. Not because I have everything figured out, but because sometimes the simple things have a way of guiding us back to what matters most.
I believe we're meant to create lives that feel rooted, purposeful, and uniquely our own.
And sometimes all it takes is a small reminder.
A family recipe.
A walk through the garden.
A quiet prayer.
A holiday tradition carried forward.
A loaf of bread shared with someone you love.
Looking Ahead
This space will continue to grow alongside me.You'll find reflections on slow living, old-fashioned traditions, homemaking, faith, creativity, seasonal inspiration, and the everyday moments that make a house feel like home.
Most of all, I hope you'll find encouragement here.
Not encouragement to become someone else, but encouragement to become more fully yourself.
Because the world doesn't need more hustle.
It needs more people willing to slow down, gather close, and remember what truly matters.
Thank you for being here.
